Simple Key to Being a Good Father

“Then Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him entered the ark because of the water of the flood.” Genesis 7:7

There are many keys that combine to make a good father, but the most vital yet simple key is reverence to God.  In Genesis 7:7 we see that the reward for Noah’s reverence not only saved his life but also saved the lives of all his family.  He was the most fatherly man on the planet because he was able to protect his family from destruction – all because he chose to be reverent to God by honoring His commands.

Hebrews 11:7 says, “By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen (rain), in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household.”  (Parenthesis and italics added)  Now let’s think this all the way through – no one had ever seen rain before on the earth. God tells Noah to build a massive boat, which took him 120 years. And he was warning everyone that rain was coming!  Are you serious?!  Can you imagine the mocking and jeering he received?

For over a century Noah was probably the most irrelevant man on the planet – there wasn’t a person who could’ve been more absurd than Noah. Yet in his heart, he was the most reverent man on the planet – and, as a result, his entire household was saved.  Wow!

You want a simple key to being a good father?  Live your life reverently toward God and don’t worry about being relevant to the culture.  Your family will thank you!
